SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN (1886-1975), scholar, biographer, philosopher, educationist and statesman was one of the few people in world history who though being a professional philosopher of eminence rose to be the head of a vast country. His tireless effort that was devoted to Indian philosophy and culture made him an ideal person to promote the rich heritage of India’s philosophic roots to the West and to educate people about India’s philosophic history.
His extraordinary felicity with the English language and Sanskrit made his writing a connoisseur’s delight; in fact, many scholars of Indian philosophy became aware of their rich philosophic heritage because of his efforts. He formulated a comprehensive and systematic scheme of study of India’s philosophy that is now known as the Sarma-Radhakrishna system. His work is still relevant and popular, attracting a large number of students who wish to pursue education in the field of Indian philosophy. He is regarded as one of the greatest thinkers of his time, a man of great wisdom and profound conviction.
