I had a very specific picture in my head for several illustrations, but I wasn't sure how to communicate it. The illustrator used sketches to translate my ideas into something we could discuss. That made revisions much easier. We changed the expressions on several characters and simplified a few backgrounds before moving to final artwork. One illustration took longer than expected because it contained many small details. Still, the final image is one of my favorites in the book.
