AMC has been known for pushing edgy, genre-bending dramas. That’s why it’s a big loss that the network has canceled Into the Badlands.
The martial arts drama was heavily marketed, and AMC tried to use the popularity of The Walking Dead to make it a hit. But the series never pulled the numbers that it was supposed to.
Into the Badlands, an original series from Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, debuted in late 2015 and scored with critics and fans for its immersive world and the artistry of its elaborate fight sequences.
AMC was very heavy on promoting the show ahead of its debut, even launching a "Kung Fu Friday" marathon leading up to its debut, as well as running a series of promos that included Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen.
The show did not turn out to be a huge hit with AMC, and the network eventually cancelled it during its third season. It had not been given a good schedule and the network also lost interest in it because of its low ratings.
