Relief America

Relief America is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing relief to victims of natural disasters and helping the communities affected by these events. The website offers a number of resources, including an Emergency Relief Fund, Direct Relief, and The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund.

Direct Relief

Direct Relief is a nonprofit medical charity which provides health care to those who need it most. Their mission is to expand access to health care by supplying medicine, equipment, and supplies to doctors and community-based health providers. They also provide emergency relief following a disaster. For example, they recently partnered with the Shanti Foundation to help victims of the Nepal earthquake. The organization also provides a plethora of other services to the world's poor. In fact, the charity is so prolific that they currently serve more than 80 countries, with more than 20 in the Western U.S. Aside from helping those in need, the organization has an impressive track record when it comes to delivering on its mission.

While the direct mail campaign of the same name may have garnered the top honors for this year's most charitable donations, the organization's philanthropic efforts span the globe, bringing the medical services of a well-funded organization to the people who need them most. With a focus on the most underserved populations in the world, the charity aims to create highly impactful programs and initiatives.

The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund

Restaurant Employee Relief Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping restaurant workers. Its mission is to assist unemployed and underemployed workers in the food and beverage service industry by providing grants. The fund was created by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation (NRAEF) and food TV star Guy Fieri.

The fund is supported by donations from the NFL's Houston Texans and Tito's Handmade Vodka. In addition to helping food service employees, the fund hires laid off workers.

For those interested in applying, applicants must have been employed in the restaurant industry for at least 90 days, and have experienced a decrease in wages or loss of job. Additionally, 60 percent of the recipients are female and 80 percent report household incomes that are less than $50,000 per year.

If approved, applicants may receive grants of up to $10 million. Grants are distributed through the United States Small Business Administration. RRF grants are not taxed. However, operators must begin using the grants by March 11, 2023.

President Trump's handling of disaster relief in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico at a difficult time. The island's infrastructure was not intact and the electrical grid was weak. It had been left without power for months. Almost 3,000 people died.

Congress needs to take immediate action to help Puerto Rico recover from the disaster. Increasing emergency funding for FEMA should be one of the first actions. Also, the president should work with Congress to address the public health crisis on the island.

There are still millions of residents who lack reliable drinking water. Hospitals are also struggling to keep power on. Many homes in Puerto Rico have blue tarps instead of roofs.

Puerto Rico is still recovering from the deadliest U.S.-based natural disaster in 100 years. Trump's response to the hurricane has been criticized by residents.

The federal government has allocated nearly $41 billion to assist the island. However, the administration has taken steps to divert disaster aid to build a border wall. While Trump has claimed that the "unsung success" of the federal response is impressive, many have complained that it has been inadequate.
