After a decade of selling TaylorMade golf clubs, Adidas put the brand up for sale, as golf lost popularity among millenials and other sports shifted to more time-intensive activities. The company also faced a public backlash over its collaboration with Kanye West, who renounced the line for his anti-Semitic rants.
When you think of a Yeezy sneaker, chances are that you're thinking of the 350 V2. Whether you want a pair with a glitchy primeknit or a more retro look, this silhouette is one of adidas' most successful shoes.
This February, Yeezy is revisiting an old favorite with the 350 V2 CMPCT, dropping in a red colourway that's bound to please true fans. Featuring an earthy shade with grey and black weaves, the shoe's pressed material is resistant to yellowing and can be easily cleaned.
It's also worth checking out the Yeezy 380, the upcoming replacement for the 350 V2. Dropping in summer 2021 as part of the Mono pack - which features the Mono Mist, Mono Cinder, Mono Ice and Mono Clay - this sneaker swaps out the traditional primeknit upper with a transparent mesh that looks similar to its older sibling's side stripe. The result is a sleek and clean look that's easy to dress up or down.
A sneaker that stands out from the pack, the EQT Support is a runner whose minimalist design attracts fans of uncluttered aesthetics. Its olive upper is crafted from tough suede and leather and rests on a comforting BOOST sole. The sneaker also features a branded insole, a round toe, and lace fastening.
This premium reissue of the classic Adidas EQT Support brings back the original model's 1990s running aesthetic with modern Boost technology. Specific references include the ribbon three stripe branding and the tonal suede overlays. The sleek cover is recognized by sneaker enthusiasts for its versatility as it pairs well with joggers and shorts.
Lina Fredikkson, owner of the local sneakers store Avenue in Antwerp, infused her forward-thinking fashion sensibilities into the EQT Support. She reimagined the silhouette with tonal aniline leather and vegetable dyed leather, while adding embroidery hits on the heel and quintessential 3-Stripes branding. The collaboration is a limited release exclusive to the store and available for presale on Wednesday, September 30.
A max cushion racing flat that will be seen on many of the world's fastest athletes, the Adios Pro 2 is a go-faster shoe with an impressive energy return. The shoe has a carbon-infused ENERGYRODS system in the midsole, sandwiched between two layers of adidas' lightest foam, LIGHTSTRIKE PRO.
This system provides stability without the jarring feel of other super shoes with carbon plate and rod systems. When used at elite paces, the shoe feels like lightning in a bottle with a smooth transition from heel to forefoot and a slight rocker that promotes forward momentum.
The shoe is a little on the heavy side for a pure racing model, but the extra ounces are necessary to provide enough energy return at faster speeds. The upper also feels a bit stiffer than most other adidas models with some extra support for the arch. Still, if you're looking for an elite distance racing shoe that will take you all the way up to the marathon, this is the one.
The Adidas Ultraboost DNA Loop is a fully recyclable shoe designed for the future. The trainers are made from one single material and feature no glue, allowing them to be returned after use and upcycled into new shoes. The shoes are a part of the brand’s “Made to be Remade” project, which is aimed at addressing environmental concerns like plastic waste and moving towards circular design principles.
The shoes are assembled using heat, which is a more sustainable process than traditional glue. Once the trainers are worn out, they can be sent back to the company, where they will be washed, ground into pellets, and melted into materials for components of a new pair of shoes.
The shoes were released as part of adidas’s Creators Club Week digital festival, which took place this week. They were available to 1,500 members of the community who signed up to be a beta tester through the adidas app. The community will provide feedback over the course of 21 weeks and share their actions via the app.
