Inflight internet is a much-loved luxury when you’re traveling for business or just need to catch up on your Netflix binge. However, the service can be expensive.
The good news is that there are a number of credit cards that offer free Gogo inflight wifi passes. If you’re an American Express Business Platinum Card Member, you get 10 complimentary internet passes each year to use on flights that are equipped with Gogo Wi-Fi.
If you’re a T-Mobile subscriber, you can get one hour of complimentary access on domestic flights that feature Gogo on select aircraft. You can also get a discount if you pre-purchase an hourly or day pass online. For example, you can buy a 24-hour pass for just $19 ahead of time. You can even re-use your passes if you switch to a different device. Just make sure your new device has a randomized MAC address. If not, you’ll need to purchase a new pass.
If you fly Delta with Gogo on board, it's a good idea to prepurchase your internet passes online. Onboard prices can run $30 for a flight or even $40 for an all-day pass, but you'll save money by buying ahead of time. For example, one-hour passes are $7 each ahead of time or $19 for an all-day pass.
Aircell's unlimited monthly pass, called Gogo Unlimited, is available for passengers on flights with the airline and on select other Gogo-equipped airlines (AirTran Airways, Virgin America and Delta Airlines). The company says its network has no data caps, so you can watch anything, meet anyone, work the entire flight and stay connected.
Another option is the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite card, which offers 3X points on travel booked in the Altitude Rewards Center and 2X on gas and groceries. The card also includes 12 free in-flight Wi-Fi passes each year. But you must register them before flying, and only one device is able to access the network at a time.
Gogo is a connectivity service provider that connects planes in the air. Their apps let passengers stay in the digital loop even while traveling. Simply download their app, buy a pass and you're good to go once the airplane reaches net-surfing altitude.
Their inflight entertainment, Vision 360, captivates passengers with a home theater experience and can be accessed on any device. You can get a discount on your purchase by signing up for their email newsletters. The company also offers exclusive promos through their social media accounts.
In addition to offering in-flight Internet, Gogo has satellite agreements in place with SES (for coverage of the U.S. and parts of the Atlantic Ocean) and Intelsat (for coverage on routes over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, as well as Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America). You can also sign up for their SmartShield membership program to protect your inflight connectivity investment. They offer a number of different rebates and discounts for new and existing customers.

The program also includes a seat in the Gogo Master Technician and Installer Course (MTIC). Normally $2,100 per seat, SmartShield customers are eligible for 6 seats in the 2.5 day in-person training session at the company’s Broomfield, Colorado headquarters. (See T&C for details).
